The Wells Collection
Two hats, one design.
On our first visit to one of our farmers who supply our wool, we first discovered the personality of the Romney sheep. There they were. Two sheep staring at us with such an arrogant confidence it was rather disarming.
The first, having just lost half a stone of fleece, we rather unoriginally called Sean.  Freshly relieved of his first winter coat and ready for the Spring and summer grass of the Romney marshes, he looked assured, and completely unphased by his shearing transformation. He clearly had a very short memory! And standing alongside him, his best friend, calmly standing with an air of insouciance that belied the forthcoming surprise of his first clip. Just staring at us. Chewing slowly. We called him Mitt.

The freshly shorn fleeces aren’t spotless of course, but you can immediately feel the weight and strength of the wool with its protective natural oils and see the practical beauty of the wool.

What Mitt and Sean have given us deserves the utmost respect and care. So the wool is carefully sorted, graded and then gently scoured to remove dirt. It's combed then spun and the yarn then dyed – without the use of mordants – and then woven into a worsted tweed. Finally its finished and ready to be made into a classic cap.

This tweed was designed by Rosie Green, an outstanding textile designer and graduate of Central St Martins.
We then use only the best artisans in England to create the excellence you expect.
We’ve chosen two contrasting blues (strange how in England, Oxford and Cambridge rivalry only extends to the tone of the blue rather than an outright colour clash), then a splash of Kentish carmine red and our natural undyed ecru with some onyx highlights to create a new stunning original tweed.

All our tweeds will be named after Kent towns.  We’ve called our first “The Wells” after Royal Tunbridge Wells.

We have two hats.
The first is a baseball style cap with an adjustable fitting to suit (almost) every head size. We carefully ensure the pattern is matched across the cap. Light but durable, the cap is ideal for matching casual outfits.
Our 8 piece hat – sometimes called a baker-boy hat – is available in Small, Medium, Large and Extra large. To ensure you get the right fit first time, please refer to the sizing guide. A statement accessory, this unisex style lifts an outfit and is sure to be a talking point.
